Americans Are Lonely!

(This post was written by Art Jensen, Pastor of Group Ministries)
George Gallop has said that Americans are among the loneliest people in the world. In the midst of busy lives, overcommitted schedules, and congested cities, we feel alone. But how can that be? Most of us live around and work with people; lots of them.
Having access to people isn’t the issue for most of us. While we live and work in a sea of humanity we end up missing out on the benefits of regular meaningful relationships. We were never meant to live in a state of functional isolation. We were created to be relational beings. Granted, we all have varying relational needs based on our wirings and temperaments but the truth is that none of us were meant to live alone, away from meaningful connection. “Alone” and “isolated” are words that were never meant to be used to describe us. Qualities like mutual encouragement, support, love, and honor, are the words I think God had in mind!
In John 17 Jesus prayed that we would all be one as He and the Father are one. Jesus’ prayer was that all His followers would experience deep meaningful relationships. And this is how the world would know we were following Him.
That is my hope for you this fall season – that you would experience God in a fresh new way and all your relationships would be deep!
